Acoustic Americana:
Audacious Humor!
Friday, January 8, 2010
Rolling Stone called what they do "inspired, lunatic brilliance." Jazz Review describes them as "an audacious, genre-defying national treasure!" The Asylum Street Spankers are masters of dozens of instruments, adept arrangers and songwriters. They're also brilliant interpreters of Golden Age Americana, spiced with right-on influences from their own era, performed with a ripping sense of humor, often with pointed social and cultural commentary, that creates unbridled fun and merriment. Defiantly acoustic, fiercely independent and absurdly good, the Spankers are an internationally renouned underground institution.

|
Danny Paisley & Southern Grass
and
Darren Beachley & Legends of the Potomac
Pure Bluegrass Double Bill
Thursday, December 10, 2009
Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass play powerful, unadorned, and intense traditional bluegrass. There is no hybrid or genre-bending music here.. It is music borne of the vibrant old time southern fiddle bands, as well as the lonesome moans of the backwoods mountain blues. The instruments blaze with energy while the songs reveal a paradoxical, desperate sadness anchoring the music squarely in the classic bluegrass tradition. It is music you not only hear, but feel in your gut.
Darren Beachley, most recently with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, has started a new band with a Who’s Who of great bluegrass musicians. Joining Beachley are Mike Auldridge and Tom Gray, original members of The Seldom Scene. Tom was also a member of The Classic Country Gentlemen. Norman Wright, a former member of The Bluegrass Cardinals and Country Gentlemen, is known for his excellent songwriting and arranging and harmony singing. Banjoist Mark Delaney is former member of The Country Gentlemen and is known for his innovative style. Pure Bluegrass Double Bill and drive. Darren Beachley and Legends of the Potomac is a shining example of what is right in bluegrass music today. |

Gary Hoey’s biggest chart hit was the cover of the Focus’ "Hocus Pocus." He’s maintained his status as a fiery guitarist with a series of blood-boiling albums that are heavy on riffage while upholding the basic rock n‘ roll values of melodies, hooks & heart. Even Surf-guitar King Dick Dale (with whom he’s shared the Sellersville Stage) proclaimed Hoey his favorite modern guitarist. Expect a show filled with concert faves and of course holiday classics from his popular Ho! Ho! Hoey Christmas albums.

Americana New Orleans Blues-funk
Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Over the course of 20 years and eight albums, the subdudes have quietly become one of America's national musical treasures. The New Orleans-rooted group is a living synthesis of American music, a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, soulful R & B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock ‘n' roll attitude and folky social consciousness – not to mention exceedingly sharp musicianship and ensemble playing. It's tight enough to be loose, but never sloppy. Their latest CD, Flower Petals, is garnering high praise!
