Staff Pick: Adam Ezra

Community has long been at the core of Adam Ezra’s musical mission. For more than a decade, the

Boston based singer and guitarist has embraced an inclusive relationship with his growing international

fan base, a kinship that comes full circle on the band’s new album, ‘Hurricane Wind.’

Fan funded and produced, ‘Hurricane Wind’ is the ultimate form of collaboration. Billboard Magazine

noted, “the process of making ‘Hurricane Wind’ has been a public development since last December,

when the band started a crowdfunding campaign via PledgeMusic.” Available as a free download

through June 18, many of the album’s selections will likely make the band’s set list when Adam Ezra

Group returns to Sellersville Theater 1894 this month on Thursday, June 29.

‘Hurricane Wind’ includes “All I Am,” one of three songs co-written by Ezra and John Oates (Hall &

Oates). Recorded at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville, the acoustic number finds the pair

exchanging harmonies as they seamlessly blend Oates’ soulful voice with Ezra’s folk rock. Oates

comments, “I love working with Adam. He represents the true spirit of a man who lives for his music

and the people around him.”

Born in upstate New York, Ezra was raised in western Massachusetts. He didn’t have to look far for

early musical inspiration. His mother (Joanne Hammil) is a renowned folk singer and celebrated

educator. After completing his studies at Colgate University, Ezra began travelling and honing his skills

at various coffee shops and open mic gatherings.

“I was really immersed in teaching myself how to play and write songs,” Ezra admits. “I decided it was

the thing that inspired me the most in my life. I operate from a belief that at the core all human beings

are the same. We have the same needs, desires, hopes, and aspirations. The thing that makes us

different is culture and perspective. It became a goal of mine to soak up as much perspective as I

As a cultural activist, Ezra founded the non-profit organization RallySound in 2011. The Boston based

group seeks to inspire communities by helping to create and organize socially conscious live music

events. Ezra, with partner Charlene Bemis and more than 40 volunteers, have sponsored events for local

food banks, homeless shelters and societal causes. During an interview with Georgetown University

radio station WGTB Ezra noted, “caring about things beyond just the little worlds that we live in has

always been something that inspires me. In being part of this band, I have learned that music can bring

people together and so that has quickly become a big part of what we do.”

No stranger to the stage, Ezra has performed along side Alison Krauss, Blues Traveler, Dwight Yoakam,

The Gin Blossoms, Jackson Browne, Los Lobos, Rusted Root, The Wailers and Ziggy Marley, to name

just a few. It will be Ezra’s second appearance at ST94, his first as a headliner. Adam Ezra Group are

the recipients of numerous regional awards including Song Of The Year (“Let Your Hair Down,” “Takin

Off”), Band Of The Year and Album Of The Year for Ragtop Angel.

Since its launch, ‘Hurricane Wind’ has been one of PledgeMusic’s most creative projects. The eight-

year old, direct to fan platform is dedicated to bringing innovative artists and passionate fans closer

together. Commenting on the Ezra campaign, PledgeMusic CEO Dominic Pandiscia notes, “we are

thrilled to have the Adam Ezra project on PledgeMusic. The campaign has been amongst the most

creative we’ve ever seen with fun items ranging from a signed (empty) bottle of whiskey, to a bowling

night with the band. It even has a custom made motorcycle for the bargain price of $1 million.

PledgeMusic is a place where artists can have fun and truly be “artists” and the Adam Ezra Group is

maybe our best example of this.”

Adam Ezra Group will perform at ST94 on Thursday, June 29. The performance is the first in a new

series called Member & Friends Night where Members are encouraged to bring friends and show them

what ST94 Membership is all about. Members can purchase Buy Two, Get Two tickets and will be

emailed the week of the show about joining us for a pre-show surprise.
