Being busy is an understatement when it relates to the activities of singer songwriter Bob Schneider. His dizzying output of music and equally impressive performing schedule have often caused his loyal followers to ask, “why isn’t he more famous?!” This Friday the unofficial King of Austin is set to roll into Sellersville Theater. He brings with him his five piece touring band and a ST94 exclusive set list that could span rock, bluegrass, folk, funk, pop and zydeco.
“When it comes to generating new material, Bob Schneider could be considered the Energizer Bunny of rock and roll,” said LA Weekly of the defiantly independent musician. Bob releases new music every month from a fan applauded series born from Schneider’s now decade long “The Song Game.” Started in 2001, the game involves an invitation only email list that challenges musicians to turn in a new song every Friday. The game includes a who’s who of popular artists including Ben Folds, Patty Griffin and Jason Mraz. It nets no winners or losers; its goal is fun and simple productivity. Bob is a master!
The recipient of more than 50 Austin Music Awards, three of Schneider’s albums have hit Billboard Magazine’s Top 200. His latest album, a series of three recordings titled ‘King Kong,’ was released in 2015. “Quirky yet brilliant and thoughtful. A talented songwriter,” said Performer Magazine. “A troubadour in the true sense,” added Riverfront Times.
Schneider’s return to Sellersville closes a two year gap between performances for his area fan base. For those new to his music, his genre- ending sound is sure to strike an internal chord. “The thing that works for me is to keep things really eclectic,” he says. “I think songs should represent all facets of life. I love songs that make you laugh and then might even bring you to tears. If that can happen over the course of three minutes, then you really have something special.”
