During his legendary stage show, Bobby Rush often springs high into the air—arms outstretched, legs tucked—before landing with effortless grace and sliding right back into his dazzling routine. It’s the kind of move you’d expect from a young R&B star, but it’s downright astonishing when you remember Rush is well into his 90s.

“I never thought I’d be here this long,” Rush admits. “I was 83 before I won a Grammy, but better late than never. I laugh about it, but I’m blessed. I never imagined I’d still be making a living doing what I love. I’m not just some old guy on his way out.”

Indeed, far from slowing down, Rush has kept a whirlwind schedule—headlining European festivals with his band, performing solo at venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, and in 2023 releasing All My Love For You. Since then, he’s added more Grammys to his shelf, re-recorded his 1971 classic "Chicken Heads" alongside Buddy Guy and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and published his acclaimed autobiography I Ain’t Studdin’ You: My American Blues Story.

And in 2025, Rush shows no signs of stopping. He was involved with the hit film Sinners with Michael B. Jordan, teamed up with Kenny Wayne Shepherd for the album Young Fashioned Ways, toured across the U.S. and Europe, graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry with Shepherd, and delivered a powerhouse performance on Austin City Limits.

Rush has become one of the most prominent advocates for the blues tradition and says, “It’s the root of all music, it’s the mother of all music. If you don’t like the blues, you probably don’t like your mama.”
