“Clapton Is God-frey” - a premier tribute concert celebrating the legendary music of Eric Clapton - is led by acclaimed guitarist and vocalist Godfrey Townsend. After its inception in 2000, it became the longest-running and most successful show at B.B. King’s Blues Club in NYC’s Times Square, captivating audiences for nearly two decades.
Godfrey Townsend is widely recognized for his uncanny ability to capture Clapton’s iconic sound and spirit, which most recently led him to be recruited as lead guitarist for The Yardbirds in 2018. With a storied career working extensively with over 50 major artists - including The Who’s John Entwistle, Jack Bruce of Cream, The Alan Parsons Project and as musical director for The Happy Together Tour for the past 15 years - Townsend brings authenticity and passion to the classic rock genre in every performance.
Godfrey Townsend’s deep admiration for Clapton’s artistry shines through in every note, making “Clapton Is God-frey” a must-see experience for blues and rock fans alike. He delivers an electrifying tribute to one of rock’s greatest legends. The concert's dynamic setlist spans Clapton’s entire career, as far back as his work with Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos, to his celebrated later solo hits, featuring classics such as “Sunshine of Your Love,“ “Presence of the Lord,” “Layla,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Wonderful Tonight,” and more.
