Dana Fuchs stands at the crossroads of blues and rock, a fierce voice in modern roots music. With Borrowed Time, she digs into her southern rock upbringing, channeling the loud, guitar-driven sounds of her childhood in Wildwood, Florida.

Raised by an outspoken Irish-Catholic family, Fuchs never fit the conservative mold of her hometown. Music grounded her—whether through Baptist church soul or the gritty rock of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It taught her that rock & roll wasn’t just the sound of the South; it was the sound of the world.

Borrowed Time shifts from personal storytelling to broader narratives. Tracks like “Nothing You Own” highlight the struggles of Cape Town’s poor, while “Call My Name” turns the experiences of two women in a Liberian refugee camp into a universal tale of love and survival. “Double Down on Wrong” opens the album with searing riffs, tackling political discord.

For this record, Fuchs handed the reins to producer Bobby Harlow, embracing a raw, Stonesy rock sound. Alongside bassist Jack Daley, guitarist Jon Diamond, and others, she recorded in Michigan, capturing the album’s live energy in just eight days.

Known for her standout performances in Love, Janis and Across the Universe, Fuchs’ voice—praised by Classic Rock Magazine as “juke-joint dirty and illicit”—is front and center. Whether delivering southern twang in “Lonely Lie” or the Springsteen-style grit of the title track, she brings authenticity to every note.

Decades after leaving Wildwood, Fuchs pays tribute to the South’s seat-shaking rock & roll. “Instead of covering Skynyrd, I just made my own southern rock album,” she says. Borrowed Time marks a new chapter—one shaped by her experiences, but inspired by the stories of others. “My own story is in there,” she reflects, “but this is the first time other people’s stories are informing my emotions.”
