Dead On Live 70-74, The Sam Cutler Years

For what could be called the Grateful Dead’s most iconic and transformative years of 1970-1974, with the country blues roots of Workingman’s and Beauty, the ultimate live Dead release Europe 72, to the new independence of Grateful Dead Records’ Wake of the Flood and Mars Hotel, there was one man at the helm steering the ship. That man was legendary road manager and author Sam Cutler. As Epstein was for the Beatles, so Cutler was for the Dead. Along with his skilled and cunning tour management he put together several historic live music events, such as Canadian railroad tour Festival Express and 1973’s epic Watkins Glen concert, which long held the Guinness Book of World Records entry for "largest audience at a pop festival,"

Dead On Live is proud to present an evening of what can be considered the Dead’s most prolific, transitional, and dynamic era; 1970 – 1974. Uncle John’s Band rolling into Cumberland Blues, with the next two years of classic live releases featuring Playing In The Band, Wharf Rat, Ramble On Rose and Tennessee Jed. Followed by Grateful Dead Records classics Eyes of the World and Scarlet Begonias. DOL goes deep with note for note versions of Stella Blue and Pride of Cucamonga, pedal steel and all!

Dead On Live continues its unique approach of note for note performances from the iconic GD releases and famed live versions, as well as plenty of no-holds-barred Grateful jamming, guaranteed to keep any fan dancing and singing along.
