What happens when a teenage girl born in the early days of the 21st century pines for the good old days of the 1940s and 50s, when life was simpler and pop music had that swing? She hops in her Time Machine and turns back the dial to the days of Boogie Woogie, of course!

One might think that Ella Rodgers, vocalist and musician, might share the same enthusiasm for current pop music and the latest trends as her peers. However, Ella's musical taste harkens back more than 80 years to her favorite recording artists of the 1910s to the 1960s. As a vocalist, Ella’s style borrows from The Boswell Sisters, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, Judy Garland, Doris Day, and others. Her first tutors arrived in the form of old records she found at thrift stores, as well as her Dad's playing that fascinated Ella as a child. As a pianist, Ella’s styles are equally as varied – ragtime, blues, traditional, and the best of the American Songbook. As a songwriter, Ella captures the fun and light-hearted existence of living along the coast near Savannah, Georgia, evoking that certain Leslie Gore vibe of the Sixties, and leaving listeners with one of her melodies stuck in their heads for days.

Ella Rodgers was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, a city full of rich musical history and southern charm. She started playing piano at age six, writing at age eight, and performing professionally at age fifteen. She learned to sing from listening to old records, especially Judy Garland. Her passion for writing came from her dad, Bobby Lee Rodgers. This opened her up to all styles of music from the 1920s to the 1950s, and she soon felt at home playing the music of great artists who came before her. Ella’s passion for older music transcends into her lifestyle. She started sewing her own clothing at age 12, and she embodies her love of music from her soul to her clothes. Everything about her transports you into another time. Her future goal is to continue playing with her dad and recording for many decades to come.

A bright new voice has emerged from the Deep South. Join us in the Time Machine as we welcome the delightful Ella Rodgers, accompanied by her father, Bobby Lee Rodgers.
