The Lovin' Spoonful (3PM)

The Lovin’ Spoonful were often referred to as the American Beatles. Formed in the Greenwich Village, New York City in the mid-1960s, the band challenged the British Invasion with an astonishing unrivaled string of hits. Their first 7 singles landed on Billboard’s Top 10 chart within 18 months! Led by John Sebastian, the band helped pioneer the musical genre of folk rock. By 1966, they were the third best-selling act in the US, behind the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The original lineup last performed in 1968, after which John Sebastian departed to pursue a solo career. In 2000, the original band members reunited and performed at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Original member bassist Steve Boone is still touring and keeping the group’s hits alive.
