Zoë Keating is a composer and cellist known for her genre-defying music, described as “swoon inducing” (San Francisco Weekly) and “a distinctive mix of old and new” (NPR). For over two decades, she’s explored the sonic edges of the cello, layering her instrument live using tech-driven looping and sampling, all created without a label in her signature DIY fashion.

Born in Canada to British and American parents, Keating began playing cello at eight and studied electronic music at Sarah Lawrence. She moved to San Francisco post-grad, balancing a career in tech while moonlighting in rock bands. Eventually, she fused music and tech in live performances, crafting her signature layered sound.

Her self-produced albums topped iTunes and Billboard classical charts, while her recordings have been featured widely—in NPR’s Morning Edition, OnBeing, CBS's Elementary, and countless videos and documentaries. She co-composed the Emmy-nominated score for HBO’s Oslo, and her immersive performances continue to captivate audiences globally.

A passionate advocate for artist rights and healthcare transparency, Keating has spoken widely on copyright, data, and insurance reform, including a 2016 meeting with President Obama. She lives in Burlington, VT and is working on a new album.
